Huge lake takes shape at The Wave Bristol

The project to bring surfing to Bristol is full steam ahead and set to open its doors in Autumn 2019. The earthworks have been completed, the team has appointed building contractor, Andrew Scott Ltd, and work is beginning on the construction phase of the project.

The 185m long lake that lies at the heart of the visionary project is taking shape. A team of diggers and trucks has spent the last 3 months creating the ground levels, and access, putting in services and excavating the lake area. In line with the project’s sustainability principles, all the excavated material is being kept and reused on site. The team has also taken the time to very carefully remove the nutrient rich topsoil and store it so that it can be used later on, giving the best growing conditions for seeding and planting.

The project is now moving into the construction phase and Andrew Scott Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor for the project. With nearly 150 years of experience, the Andrew Scott team has delivered a wide range of public and private sector projects, all of which have been built on quality, innovation and sustainability.

Main contractor starts work

A beautiful destination

The Wave will be a beautiful destination on the edge of Bristol where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can try surfing on consistent waves all year round. It will be a space where people can become happier by connecting with water, nature, each other and themselves. As well as the surfing lake there will be gardens to explore, delicious food and drink, and a surf shop.

The Bristol project is on schedule to be fully open to the public in Autumn 2019. The Wave team has also recently announced that it is partnering with Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to bring an in-land surfing destination to London.

Cutting edge technology

The Wave will be using cutting-edge ‘Cove’ wave-making technology from Wavegarden to bring surfing to Bristol. The Cove technology generates up to 1,000 quality waves per hour, with heights starting at 50cm and peaking at almost 2m, allowing people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to experience the joy of surfing. Whether it’s children getting on a board for the first time or a professional surfer training for the Olympics, everyone will be welcome at The Wave.
